Parkwood, the R.S. McLaughlin Estate, is a stately mansion and acres of gardens that is a popular location for filming and photo shoots of every genre. Bomb Girls, X-men, Billy Madison, and The Kennedys are just a few popular productions shot here. Durham Region is also home to the Bowmanville Zoo, Canada’s oldest private zoo, with lions, tigers and other animals that love the spotlight and have been seen in films such as Life of Pi, George of the Jungle and Animorphs.
Durham’s eight film-friendly municipalities (the cities of Oshawa and Pickering, the Municipality of Clarington, the towns of Ajax and Whitby, and the townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge) offer a variety of locations from quaint downtowns, picturesque bridges and historical buildings; to rural settings, abandoned factories and rustic train stations.
